7 Secret Website Tactics That Sell Like Crazy

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

People buy from sources they like and trust. How do you build these qualities into a website so people feel comfortable enough to buy? Here are seven proven tactics that are used on almost every successful website.

  1. Call to Action – Every successful website has a well defined call to action. This is a predetermined goal or action that we want our website visitors to take once they have arrived at our site. The website has to communicate these goals clearly and consistently. The following are good examples:
    - Call today for a free consultation
    – Start your free trial today
    – Free delivery with every purchase over $120

Helpful Tip: Avoid choice overload; too many choices equals lower sales

  2. People Imagery – Include the “human element” on your website page design. Smiling faces communicate a sense of customer service as well as build trust. A well placed graphic of a person or people that is relevant to your industry helps build trust and confidence immediately.

  3. Credit Card Logos – Most businesses today take credit cards as payment even if their website is not a shopping cart. The logos of Visa/American Express placed at the top and bottom of a site instill buying confidence in your company.

  4. Contact information – such as a phone number needs to be placed at the top of the site. This again builds confidence on a subconscious level. People like to know that they can reach your company easily if there is an issue with a transaction.

  5. Guarantees, warranties, and cancelation policies – make sure the link to this information is visually noticeable on the homepage. This minimizes the level of risk perception in the buyers mind.

  6. Secure Checkout Logos – ensure that the secure payment logo or image is visible. Online shoppers look for this indication before using a credit card.

  7. Shipping Information – do your best to provide and link to an explanation of your policy regarding shipping and delivery. When appropriate use a graphic such as the UPS or FedEx log to establish brand familiarity and trust.

The art of converting website visitors to customers is a very complex science. No two websites are the same. It takes a lot of time and effort to get a website optimized for success. 1. Make profiles on each social bookmarking site listed at SocialMarker – The initial setup of these profiles will be time consuming, but it will save you hours of manually bookmarking your blog posts on all the bookmarking sites.

  2. Complete at least two (2) high quality, relevant blog posts that are meaningful to your audience a day.
Helpful Hint: Write several blogs in advance and schedule them to be time released with your blog administrator software.

Franchises, Internet Marketing, and Social Media

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

A main goal of any franchise corporation is to sell franchises. I think it’s easier than ever for a franchise to build their brand’s reputation over the internet. For example, if you owned a fast food franchise, you could search on Goolge for blogs that are industry related. Get in on the conversations and contribute. Provide valuable feedback on the topics being discussed. Ensure to insert a backlink to your website or blog whenever possible.

Another suggestion I have for franchisors selling franchises is to contribute to community sites sucha as LinkedIn and facebook. Join and start your own groups within communities. You’ll soon find that it’s not too difficult to connect with people that are interested in similar Franchising topic(s).

I have started a Squidoo lense that is designed to provide information to Franchises on how they can grow rapidly using social media and web 2.0 technologies. For more information, you can visit the lens here: Franchise Marketing Ideas

Please bookmark the site as I will try to update with more information on a regular basis.

Useful Website Traffic Reporting Tool

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Want to know how much traffic a website gets? Want to know what the percentage of female visitors on that website is? Quantcast.com is a website that allows advertisers to view visitor reports on websites. It also allows website publishers the opportunity to pull website traffic data to demonstrate value to their advertisers. You can also use it to gain insight on visitor demographics for any website. We have noticed though, that the website has to gain enough traffic to be listed. You can also use to gain valuable insight on your competitors websites.

Using Web 2.0 For Business Development

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Here are just a few social media sites I like to use to market other websites with:

You Tube – I think everyone has seen or heard of YouTube by now. In order to succeed on YouTube and have your video shared, you may want to upload video content that is funny or has some other type of value to your potential audience. A sales pitch about your stuff probably won’t get a large response. The best example I can think of at the moment is a series of videos by a company called, “BlendTec”. The videos are titled, “Will It Blend”. The videos have seen over 20 million views. Now that’s market reach!

Facebook – Facebook is one of the most Web 2.0 social networking tools. You can join a group of people that all have a similar interest. You could provide that group with valuable information that relates to your services and or products and draw them to your website.
